The Essence of Magic is combined with a Slayer Helmet (magic) or a Occult Slayer Helmet to fill the Magic tank located in the manhole next to the Slayer Master Lazarus.
When a Slayer Helmet is stored in the Magic tank, players are able to wear any headgear while still benefiting from the passive effects of the Slayer Helmet during Slayer tasks.
